Judging from the report and map, I should

think it would take three seasons to securately work out

One cannot and map the area on a one mile to an inch soals. estimate closely as it depends on such factors as weather conditions, complications in the geology etc., that cannot be foretold. But asmming that one could count on 6 to 8 months of weather during which effective field work could be carried on, and fairly complicated geology, indicated by the report you sent me, which means slow detailed work, three seasons' work should be sufficient, I would be surprised if

it could be done in two.

The geologist would require one assistant, whe could make an instrumental traversa, An intelligent local man would answer this purpose, as he could be instructed in his duties very quickly. There would also be required living accommodation near the work, such as a camp outfit, house or rooms, according to local conditions. For the coast line a boat would be needed, which might also provide

accommodation.

I would propose that the work be done by a - each spending a year couple of my colleagues and myself on the work, The advantages are these:- firstly, none of us could afford to spend the whole time necessary for the complete work, but we could devote a year or so to it; secondly, each is a specialist in a particular branch of geology, so that your geological problems would be traced by men speciel] y trained for these particular probleme, emphasizing the superiority of three heads over one.

I would also suggest that Dr. are experienced field men, S. J. Schofield, our Professor of Physical and Structural Geology, should initiate the work. He is, I think, the best field man we have in Canada. He has had many years' experience with the Canadian Geological Survey and has been If, after his work, it pressed to accept its Directorship,

were apparent that three years would be required to complete

it
